Today was our first full day of ministry activities. Our team worked hard, had fun, and did some incredible things!
Here are a couple of thoughts from Jaiden Konschak about our day:
Today we started off the day with devotions and breakfast. After breakfast we traveled thirty minutes into south Chicago. We served at Olive Branch Missions homeless shelter. When we go there we were split into groups. Some of us got the chance to work in the kitchen, others cleaned up the building and my group led a mini-vacation bible school. This was an eye opening experience for me. These kids didn't have much but they had such positive attitudes. I was so blessed by this experience and I'm so thankful I got to meet the children. After this we went back to the church and had lunch. Then we started setting up for vacation bible school through new community church. We played A leader vs. kid basketball game and got creamed. The kids were crazy good at basketball. We lead them in large group and worshiped with them. It was so cool to see the kids worshipping and dancing. Then we broke into small groups. The leaders led the kids through small group, games and crafts. This experience was also eye opening and amazing. The kids were so amazed by the lesson "God made you." After VBS we ate dinner and Zach gave a lesson about how we are the bride of Christ. I'm so happy I decided to come on this trip.
Tomorrow, our group will go back to Olive Branch Mission (www.obmission.org) and do our second day of VBS at New Community Church. In addition, a 12 students and leaders will go downtown to hand out meals to homeless with a food truck ministry. Please pray for us as we go out tomorrow!
